A Historic Day In Iredell County: Iredell-Statesville Schools Breaks Ground On Weathers Creek High School.
Iredell-Statesville Schools officially broke ground on the highly anticipated Weathers Creek High School on April 4, 2025. Expected to open its doors for the 2027-2028 school year, Weathers Creek will be located 114 acres on Overcash Road in Troutman.
Iredell-Statesville Schools’ Superintendent Jeff James expects Weathers Creek High School will become the hub of the community it serves. “It’s not just a school,” he shares. “It’s an educational complex.”
Other speakers at the groundbreaking included I-SS Board Chairman Doug Knight, N.C. Rep Todd Carver and Iredell County Commissioner Gene Houpe.
Weathers Creek High School is intended to alleviate overcrowding at Lake Norman High School and South Iredell High School, which has been perpetuated by population growth in the southern end of Iredell County.
The first phase of the project will focus on construction of the school and the grading for athletic facilities while the construction of the athletic stadium and ballfields will be a part of the second phase of construction once funding is approved by the Iredell County Commissioners.
