Charlotte and several counterparts in the Carolinas have landed at or near the top in a new ranking of the top U.S. cities for job opportunities and earning  potential.

The Queen City placed at No. 8 in the full ranking by Checkr, a San Francisco-based hiring and background screening platform. It moved up six spots from No. 14 in 2023, when Checkr last put together the report. The nation’s 100 largest metros were included in the study, aimed at identifying the places best positioned for jobs and earning potential in 2025.

Checkr noted sustained growth in Charlotte’s fintech, health-care and business services sectors, which it said is drawing in young professionals who want to grow their careers.

“Charlotte’s jump from 14th to 8th in our national rankings reflects just how dynamic the city’s job market has become,” Sam Radbil, research strategist at Checkr, said in an email to CBJ. “With strong labor force growth, competitive job availability, and a maturing economy, Charlotte is quickly becoming one of the most attractive metros for career-minded professionals in the Southeast.”
