Iredell Health Recognized as 2026 Wellbeing First Champion for Supporting Health Workers’ Access to Mental Health Care

Iredell Health is proud to announce its recognition as a 2026 Wellbeing First Champion by ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare. As a Wellbeing First Champion, Iredell Health has verified that its credentialing applications are free from intrusive, stigmatizing mental health questions. This means that credentialed medical staff health workers at Iredell Health can seek mental health care or treatment for substance use without fear of losing their job.
“We are honored to have been recognized for our meaningful efforts to support our medical staff by reducing administrative burden and committing to advance physician and healthcare workforce wellbeing,” shared Joseph Mazzola, DO, MBA, Iredell Health Vice President of Medical Affairs.
This is the second year that Iredell Health has been recognized as a Wellbeing First Champion for credentialing. Removing intrusive, stigmatizing mental health and substance use questions was an important step in supporting health workers’ access to care and treatment. However, ongoing, consistent communication is critical for changing the culture in healthcare and ensuring health workers know their mental health and wellbeing is a priority.
“Every health worker is a human being who carries the immense weight of caring for others. For too long, our caregivers have suffered in silence, fearing that seeking the confidential mental health care they need would cost them the career they love,” said Corey Feist, CEO and Co-Founder of the Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation, which leads the ALL IN: Wellbeing First for Healthcare coalition. “Iredell Health is breaking that silence—sending a powerful, compassionate message to their workforce that your life matters as much as your livelihood, and you never have to choose between the two.”
