Iredell Health System Hosts the Industry Leaders Council at Their Mooresville Campus
Iredell Economic Development Corporation designed the Industry Leaders Council to provide industry leaders with a forum to discuss topics, issues, and trends that
impact their business and their workforce. On August 27, business leaders delved into an issue with implications even more far-reaching, healthcare. Iredell Health System welcomed approximately 30 business leaders to their state-of-the art Mooresville Campus on Bluefield Road that houses Iredell Urgent Care, Iredell Occupational Medicine, Iredell Imaging, and Iredell Rehab. Also, at this location are:
- Iredell Ambulatory Surgery Center at Mooresville, the first of its kind in Mooresville
- Stout Internal Medicine and Wellness
- Iredell Pain Management
- Family Care Center of Mooresville with both family practice providers and cardiologists.
After a tour of the 68,000 square foot facility that represents Phase One of the 17.2-acres that comprise the Mooresville Campus, Dr. Damon Hays, Vice President of Iredell Physician Network, gave an overview of the many medical services available locally to families from southern Iredell County, and in some cases, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Following Dr. Hays, Iredell Health System’s President and Chief Executive Officer, John Green, shared some of his vision and rationale for creating an Iredell Urgent Care and a Mooresville Campus for Iredell Health System. According to Mr. Green, he was first introduced to the idea as his team conducted a focus group to better understand what services Iredell Health System could provide to best benefit the community. “The first comment someone mentioned was a 24-7 Urgent Care,” he recalls. “No one does that. So, I wrote the idea down and said let’s move on.”
When the need surfaced again at a second focus group, Mr. Green realized that 24-hour access to medical care was a very real need for working families with children and a tremendous benefit to the business community that needs their workforce to be healthy and available to work. In 2021, Iredell Health System opened Iredell Urgent Care, an ambulatory surgery center, and an imaging center. Unsure of the level of response they would receive, Mr. Green and his team set a goal for their urgent care of 10,000 visits in the first year. In year one, they saw almost 19,000 patients, and in 2024, they served almost 25,000 patients.
John Brown immediately recognized the significant benefit of Iredell Occupational Medicine to his company, DENSO. As a manufacturer with hundreds of employees, Brown needs his workforce to be healthy and available to work. The team at Iredell Occupational Medicine understands that as well as the importance of being well-versed in the regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Despite what he considers a rapidly changing complexion of healthcare, John Green understands the importance of providing the community with healthcare when and where they most need it. “Since our beginning, Iredell Health System has been owned by all the citizens of Iredell County,” he shares. “We have always been dedicated to the health and wellness of all the communities we serve, and we recognize the growing importance of having more options for quality, cost-effective healthcare close by. Our patients were telling us they preferred not to travel to get the care they need and deserve. We’ve been listening.”
Iredell Health System is now one of only ten independent hospitals in North Carolina. The system currently encompasses three campuses with 29 practice locations, 49 Integrated Provider Network Providers, and 2,236 total employees, making them the third largest employer in Iredell County.
Industry Leaders Councils are a quarterly, invitation-only program of Iredell EDC. If you are an industry leader and would like to be included in the unique and informative program, contact Todd Black, Existing Industry Manager, [email protected]
