Major Lake Norman Development Narrowly Wins Approval By Town Leaders

Charlotte-based developer Pappas Properties has won rezoning approval for its wellness-focused, mixed-use development in Mooresville.

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners was deadlocked, 3-3, on a vote to approve the developer’s rezoning request. Mayor Chris Carney broke the tie in favor of approving the rezoning of the 98-acre site at 1740 Mecklenburg Highway. The Mooresville Village project calls for up to 625 residential units and 279,000 square feet of commercial space with a range of uses.

The town board also voted narrowly to approve the annexation and utility extension for a 43-acre portion of the project site. David Cole, senior planner for the town, said that approval will require a second vote on Jan. 21 for final passage. Pappas Properties previously won the support of the town’s planning board in September for the rezoning.

“We are very pleased to receive zoning approval for Mooresville Village, a wellness-focused, master-planned community along the new east-west connector in Mooresville,” Pappas Properties said in a statement to the Charlotte Business Journal. “Our team appreciates the support of the mayor and town commissioners and looks forward to building a strategic partnership with Mooresville.”
