Mitchell Community College Opens Their Continuing Education Classes to The Public

The Workforce Development Department of Mitchell Community College provides customized training to meet the needs of Iredell County’s businesses and industries.  Now is your opportunity to take advantage of these classes to further your own career or just expand your knowledge base.

Essential Leadership Skills: October 2, 2024 – October 23, 2024, 1 p.m. –   4 p.m. $225 Includes book WFD 108

This 12-hour course contains four three-hour workshops:

  • Crucial Leadership Skills: Maintain team member self-esteem, focus on behavior and encourage team member participation.
  • Crucial Communication Skills: Create a climate of open communication, design, clear concise messages, look for nonverbal clues, and listening techniques.
  • Leading and Supporting Change: Participants will learn to recognize the link between management goals and frontline labor efforts to move forward together. Show leader how to introduce change without inducing defensive reactions.
  • Coaching Job Skills: Participant will learn the leader’s goal is to enhance the skill level of every individual team member. The module shows how to demonstrate skills and motivate team members to pursue them.

Computer Classes

Introduction to Excel: September 24 & 25, 2024, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.    $95 Includes Book WFD 104

This course is designed to get you up-to-speed quickly using Excel worksheets and workbooks. Students learn the basics of opening, saving, and printing workbooks. Our emphasis is on entering and formatting data, creating simple formulas, and working productively in the Excel environment. 

Intermediate Excel: October 8 & 9, 2024, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. $95 Includes Book WFD 104

Now that you know the basics, you’ll learn how to evaluate your data to design worksheets, lists, tables, and charts. You’ll expand your knowledge of formulas and functions including payments, vLookups, xLookups and more. You’ll discover the convenience of naming ranges, how to insert photos or graphics, and how to use conditional formatting to emphasize key points in your data.

Advanced Excel Pivot Tables: October 22 & 23, 2024, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. $95 Includes Book WFD 104

Many large spreadsheets are useful for the person entering the data, but not for the person reviewing the data. Learn how to create tables and charts that “pivot” with your choices on how to view the data so you can maximize your results.

Advanced Excel Functions: October 29 & 30, 2024, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. $95 Includes Book WFD 104

Excel’s functions are powerful. We build on the IF function that we learned in the Intermediate course with nested IF functions, SumIF, CountIF, AverageIF and IF Error. Sum, Count, and Average with a specific criterion with SumIFS, CountIFS, and AverageIFS. Expand your knowledge of XLookups, Named Ranges, and learn to use the FILTER function to return multiple values. Create and format functions that calculate dates and time. Find duplicates with the EXACT function or pull only non-duplicates with the UNIQUE function.

Advanced Excel Macros: November 12 & 13, 2024, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. $95 Includes Book WFD 104

Automate your repetitive tasks using Macros. Class includes an extensive review of keyboard shortcuts.
