Crosby Scholars Launches New Program To Help Students Build Soft Skills

How did you learn to sit still at the table? Were you born with that skill or did somebody teach you? Crosby Scholars has an opportunity to train high school students in highly desirable life skills. Skills like Communications, Presentation, Networking and Etiquette. You might not think sitting still at the table is an important life skill. As an employer, you need team members with skills that go beyond work tasks. When you interview, the person across the table should be someone who can:
- read nonverbal cues
- respond appropriately to questions
- arrive on time
- dress for the occasion
- curate an online image
- network and ask good questions
You want people who can walk into a room, introduce themselves, and get a point across, so they can make a positive impression of your business.
Crosby Scholars has received a grant to help students build soft skills. We are looking for 30 businesses to join us on December 3 for our program and lunch to support our students in practicing these skills. No cost to attend, but we welcome corporate sponsors. Follow this link to CheddarUp to register as a mentor.
Crosby Scholars has developed a program to help students learn these skills. Elevate: Building Skills for Business Success is a program partially funded by a grant from the Foundations of the Carolinas. The program will provide self-paced, virtual, and in-person workshops to train thirty high school students in Iredell County. Students will practice the skills at a business lunch. This is where you come in. During the lunch, each student will have one mentor/business leader seated with them. We need your help. We are not all born with these skills; we must practice them. Will you help us teach these students valuable skills that they can use in their future careers? Some may be a future employee for you! Join us for our luncheon on December 3, 2025, at 11:30am. Mentors will sit with students, participate in prompted conversation, connect on LinkedIn, and be available to answer questions about their industry and business experiences.
Over the years, the feedback we have received from students illustrates the fact that investing time with students, showing them that their community cares, and supporting their efforts makes a lasting impact.
