MOORESVILLE – The unveiling of a five-year, two-phrase redesign and repurposing of a downtown gathering spot is set for mid June.

This week, the town confirmed the afternoon-to-evening public grand opening celebration of “Liberty Park Reimagined” will be held Saturday, June 17.

The event will be the culmination of a long-range improvement project that began in 2018, and also one of seven 2023 signature events commemorating the town’s 150th birthday.

Liberty Park Reimagined – presented by Randy Marion – will offer a hands-on introduction to new Liberty Park amenities, including a three-stor playground, covered basketball court, interactive water fountain, picnic areas and substantial upgrades to walking trails and bridges along the creek through the park.

The June event will mark the completion of $7.9 million Phase II improvements at the park, which began in 2020 following a three-year, $2.5-million first-phase project that transformed an outdated playing field into a green space and concert venue and included walking path and lighting upgrades, a Veterans Promenade and improved pedestrian access to Church Street.

The focus on connectivity continued with Phase II, with new bridges and trails providing access to Center Avenue as part of a vision for an eventual greenway link to South Main Street.

On June 17, attractions for all ages will be a part of the celebration, along with a country music concert featuring Craig Morgan at 6:30 p.m. For more details, visit mooresvillenc150.com.
