L. Gordon Iron & Metal Company Invite You To Join Them At The David Barringer Memorial Golf Classic

DO YOU LOVE ME?

If you had the chance to know David Barringer, you likely heard him ask that question often.  David was by all definitions a character.  He had the unique ability to converse with anyone effortlessly and make a complete stranger feel like a longtime friend within moments.  He loved life, his family, his friends, and his job.  After working more than 30 years for L. Gordon Iron and Metal Company, David wore many hats at the scrapyard.  From crane operator to yard manager, he had experience in nearly every aspect of the business.

Over the years, he witnessed the generosity and charity extended to our local community by the Gordon family and wanted to find a way he could give back too.  He loved golf and had many friends who shared his passion.  With that in mind, in 2012, the L. Gordon Iron and Metal Memorial Golf Classic was established.  In its inaugural year, David, his golf buddies, and some L. Gordon employees were able to raise nearly $10,000 for The Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, the tournament’s sole beneficiary.  In the years that followed, the tournament continued to grow, raising over $400,000 for The Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont.  The key to the event’s success is the support and generosity of businesses and individuals like you.

In September of 2019, David was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He bravely fought the disease until he passed on February 20, 2020 at just 56 years old.  David was a dear friend to many and is deeply missed. To honor his memory and his commitment to this tournament, it was renamed the David Barringer Memorial Golf Classic (The BARRINGER for short).

The 14th annual tournament will be Thursday, October 22nd at Statesville Country Club.  Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for the Boys and Girls Club, just as David would have done if he were here. Every dollar we raise goes directly to the club, and all donations are tax deductible.
