North Carolina was among the top choices for households that relocated from state to state in 2019, according to a recent report from the U.S. Census Bureau. The state ranked fourth nationwide, with 315,215 people moving here from other locales within the country, the data shows.

The influx from out of state brings North Carolina’s total population to an estimated 10,371,906, according to the bureau. South Carolina gained 176,008 residents from other states, boosting its population to 5,092,727, give or take. The report on migration and geographic mobility is based on data from the agency’s 2019 American Community Survey.
