Pappas Properties’ Major Project Near Lake Norman Receives Nod From Mooresville Planning Board

Pappas Properties received a nod from the Mooresville Planning Board for its large, mixed-use project proposed near Lake Norman.
The board voted 5-2 on Sept. 24 to recommend approval of the Charlotte developer’s rezoning request for a 98-acre site at 1740 Mecklenburg Highway. The site is being eyed by Pappas Properties for a project named Mooresville Village, which would include up to 625 residential units and 279,000 square feet of commercial space.
The planning board’s recommendation is a key step for the project’s prospects. The town’s board of commissioners has final authority on the matter and is expected to consider the request for a final decision later this fall.
Pappas Properties made a key change to its project proposal. The developer revealed at this week’s meeting that it removed additional density at Mooresville Village that was tied to transit development. Pappas Properties previously proposed an additional 250 residential units and 118,000 square feet of commercial space in the Mooresville Village site plan. That piece of the project, however, would have only been developed if the Red Line was extended to the town. Those units and commercial space are no longer part of the project proposal.
