Airports

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) welcomed a record 58.8 million passengers in 2024, making it one of the busiest airports globally and the second-largest hub for American Airlines. CLT offers nonstop air service to over 188 destinations worldwide and is home to seven major air carriers, 15 regional carriers, and three foreign flag carriers. CLT is a major driver of the Charlotte region’s economy, contributing $40 billion to the economies of North and South Carolina in 2023. According to a study by the Institute for Transportation Research and Education at NC State University, the airport supported 184,400 jobs. Destination CLT, a $2.5 billion renovation and construction campaign, will expand the airport’s concourses, terminals, and fourth parallel runway over the next 10 years.

Statesville Regional Airport (KSVH) is a General Aviation airport owned by the City of Statesville and has 7,000 feet of runway space.  KSVH lies outside of the Charlotte Douglas International airspace, allowing flights to land and depart much more rapidly compared to other airports in the Region.  The Statesville Regional Airport provides corporate aviation facilities for companies, as well as multiple NASCAR teams.  Numerous aviation parts and equipment manufacturers make their home in our region and are able to take advantage of this asset. Located less than two miles from I-40 and 4 miles from I-77, our location provides advantages to access 75% of the US population within a 2-day trucking drive or less than a 3-hour flight.  The Statesville Regional Airport is among the top 10 busiest and top-performing airports in North Carolina. In 2023, the airport had a $145 Million Economic Impact, which was a 4.2% increase over 2020.  In the fall of 2022, West Star Aviation announced plans to purchase 115,000 square feet of hangar space and create 250 new jobs.

The Charlotte Regional Intermodal Facility at Charlotte Douglas International Airport was constructed and paid for by Norfolk Southern Corporation. The facility, completed in 2014, sits along the southern end of CLT’s center parallel runway 40 feet beneath two taxiway bridges and is capable of 200,000 truck-to-train and train-to-truck transfers annually.
